A taste of tradition! Mediterranean cuisine is now renowned worldwide, primarily for its deliciousness. As a true Aegean island, Kythnos certainly doesn’t lack in flavor and creativity.
What to try first:
The famous sfouggata
You might think they’re just simple cheese croquettes. Yes, but with a difference: they are made from local, unsalted goat cheese crumble! They make the perfect first meze for tsipouro and ouzo. You will find it on every table.
Pies (koukoulopita & pitaro)
The pies here always have thin dough. Both are again based on the cheese crumble. Koukoulopita also includes spring onion and dill. Excellent appetizers (or even breakfast items).
Kaparosalata (Caper Salad)
Delicious and creamy. Made with boiled potato, capers, local olive oil, lemon or vinegar.
Local goat meat
Stewed in tomato sauce or lemon sauce, or grilled chops. Excellent!
